The choice of Ermoupoli as the Institute’s home is no coincidence. At the historic Apollon Theatre, in 1904, Kyveli appeared for the first time, at just 16 years of age, alongside her husband Mitsos Myrat, with Konstantinos Christomanos’s theatre company.

That moment indelibly links the great leading lady to the cultural history of Syros. Ermoupoli, after all, was in the 19th century a city with a strong European orientation, commercial power and intellectual radiance.
