Cyclades, the enchanting island complex in the Aegean Sea, took their name from the Nymphs of the same name, whom Poseidon, according to mythology, transformed into rocks.
It is said that the islands were named after the word "kyklos" (circle), because they form an imaginary circle around Delos, the sacred birth island of Apollo.
In total, there are 33 islands and islets, of which 24 are inhabited: Amorgos, Anafi, Andros, Antiparos, Donousa, Iraklia, Thirasia, Ios, Kea, Kimolos, Koufonisia, Kythnos, Milos, Mykonos, Naxos, Paros, Santorini, Serifos, Sikinos, Sifnos, Syros, Schoinousa, Tinos and Folegandros.
