KIMOLOS (CHORA KIMOLOU)
The Cyclades islands constitute a miracle of architecture and nature, attracting crowds of visitors every year. However, you can still find the original Cyclades in some of the small islands that have remained authentic - calm, without mass tourism or too many cars. One such island is Kimolos, in the Western Cyclades.
In the "Horio", the main town of the island - just one kilometre away from the port and three kilometres away from the clean sandy beaches - the white Cycladic-style houses form with their walls the Castle of Kimolos, built in the 16th century. One of these houses, renewed with respect for tradition in 2008, forms an independent self-catering accommodation for up to six people.
The two bedrooms are independent and can be used by two families with one child each. The well-equipped kitchen, the provision of mountain bikes, a rugged three-wheel pushchair and more, in combination with the peaceful, safe environment make this house ideal for family holidays.
You can forget the car, the neon lights and the stress of everyday life. Here, the old women are knitting outside their houses in the evening, and you, while walking towards the old cafe for an ouzo, will find you really have to say "Hello" to them.
The house was fully renovated in 2008, keeping faith with the traditional character of the property. Because it is a part of the 16th century castle, recognized as an official Monument by the Greek government, the renovation was carried out under the supervision of the Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities.
The two bedrooms are on the 1st floor, each with an individual entrance and are connected to the main bathroom and kitchen through interior stairs.
The bedroom on the west has 2 single beds and one sofa-bed, TV, DVD player, ceiling fan and a balcony with stairs leading to Sotira Square, with its Cycladic style churches.
The bedroom on the east has one double bed, an armchair that can become a bed, ceiling fan, traditional fireplace, WC and a balcony with stairs to the impressive ruins of the interior of the castle.
On the ground floor is the main bathroom, equipped with a wall-mounted hair dryer, and the kitchen-dining room, with a table and six chairs, ceramic cooker, oven, large fridge, washing machine, coffee machine (for filter, espresso and cappuccino), a full set of cookware, crockery and cutlery, as well as a period marble sink and traditional fireplace.
Included as standard features there are also:
No air-conditioning is available due to restrictions imposed by the Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities.
However, the thick stone walls (0.5 - 1 meter) and the double insulation on the roof, make the house very pleasant even on the hottest of summer days. Nevertheless, if there is a person who needs extra care (such as a baby), contact us in order to provide you with a mobile air conditioning unit.
