According to Greek mythology, as a means of punishment Zeus deprived mankind of the privileges of fire. In order to return the fire to the people, Prometheus seized it from mt. Olympus and used Rock Samphire to hide it from Zeus in a rock crevice. As a consequence, Zeus tied Prometheus to a rock while an eagle was eating his liver every day.
Dioscorides, who was a Greek physician of the first century AD once said: "Cooked as a vegetable, eaten raw and preserved in brine".
It is rich in iodine and is packed with phytochemicals that protect the liver, heart and cellular DNA. It is also rich in vitamins A, C, B2, B15 amino acids, and minerals, such as iron, calcium and magnesium phosphorus, calcium, silica, zine, manganese and vitamin D. It is said to brighten age spots and to lend a healthy glow to skin. It is chock full of antioxidants and has use as such in cosmetics, too.
