NEREIDS (NIRIIDES)

Sea nymphs, daughters of Nereas and Doris, one of the Oceanids.  Nereas is described as an earlier deity of Poseidon and his name translates literally to “water in motion.”  As grandchildren of Oceanus, Nereids are reminiscent of the sea’s alluring qualities, the riches it imparted to mankind and how maritime trade was simplified.    Let’s not forget that it was the Ancient Greeks who had developed shipping and maritime trade to an exceptional degree, while creating bountiful ties to the sea.   

The number of Nereids is upward of 50 and each of their names defines their distinct relationship with the sea.  

PAST - PRESENT

The 13 rooms that comprise the 'Niriides' (Nereids) complex were designed in harmony with the island’s hues and scenery.  Blending tradition and modern conveniences, guests will enjoy an especially pleasant and comfortable stay.Each room is named after a Nereid and history lovers can appreciate the semantics of their names:

No 1 Amphitrite:  sea-goddess and beloved wife of Poseidon, personification of the sea, mother of all fish, whales and dolphins.

No 2 Actaea:  nymph of the seashore, responsible for settling relations between the sea and its shores.

No 3 Galatea:  wife of the Cyclops Polyphemus, whose name means “famous,”   son of Poseidon and blinded by a resourceful Odysseus.   Galatea means “milk white” and imparted her colour to the sea’s white caps and foam.

No 4 Poulunoe:  known as Richness of Mind.

No 5 Glauce:  the personification of the sea’s azure blue and turquoise colours.

No 6 Galene:  bestowed calmness to the seas.

No 7 Erato:    muse of lyrical poetry and hymns, protectorate of romance and marriage.

No 8 Meliti:  frequently visited the island of Malta, hence her name.

No 9 Psamathe: Sand goddess wife of Aeacus, King of Aegina, responsible for sand’s colour.

No 10 Pasithea: ...

No 11 Cymo:  breeder of waves.

No 12 Neso:   had jurisdiction of all islands.

No 13 Thetis:  mother of renowned hero Achilles.

NEREIDI

Ninfe marine, figlie di Nereo e della Oceanina Doride.

Nereo appare come una divinità più antica di Nettuno e il suo nome significa 'acqua in movimento'.

Le Nereidi come nipoti di Oceano ricordano agli uomini le caratteristiche del mare, le ricchezze che fornisce agli uomini e come facilita la realizzazione del commercio. Da non dimenticare che gli antichi Greci hanno svillupato molto il commercio e il trasporto navale creando fin dall'inizio un solido rapporto con il mare.

Le Nereidi sono 50 e i loro nomi testimoniano il loro rapporto con il mare.

PASSATO - PRESENTE

Le 13 in totale camere del complesso sono perfettamente armonizzate con i colori e l'ambiente dell'isola, abbinando la tradizione con le moderne richieste, per una piacevole e comoda permanenza.

Ogni camera porta il nome di una delle Nereidi, e per gli amanti della storia, il significato di queste si dà in seguito: 

No 1 Anfitrite : Moglie di Nettuno, incarnazione femminile del mare, madre dei pesci, delle balene e dei delfini.

No 2 Actea : Era responsabile per la gestione dei rapporti del mare con le coste.

No 3 Galatea : Moglie del conosciuto Ciclope Polifemo, figlio di Nettuno, che è stato accecato dall'intraprendente Ulisse. Bianca come il latte (gala=latte) ha regalato il suo nome alla bianca schiuma delle onde marine.

No 4 Polinoe : Conosciuta per la sua grande intelligenza e la ricchezza dei suoi saperi.

No 5 Glauce : Personalizzazione delle acque azzurre e scintillanti del mare.

No 6 Galena : (galini= serenità) porta la calma al mare.

No 7 Erato : Ninfa della poesia lirica e degli inni. Protettrice del matrimonio e del amore.

No 8 Melite : Frequentava l'isola di Malta, alla quale ha datto il suo nome.

No 9 Psamate : Moglie di Eaco, re di Egina, responsabile del colore della sabbia marina.

No 10 Pasitea : Era in grado di osservare tutto ciò che la circondava.

No 11 Cimo : Partoriva le onde. In Greco Chimò, kima=onda

No 12 Neso : Aveva sotto la sua giurisdizione l'insieme delle isole. In Greco nissi=isola.

Koufonisia is a cluster of two islands, Kato (Lower) and Pano (Upper) Koufonisi that belongs to the complex of Small East Cyclades. Geographically, it is located on the southeast side of Naxos and on the west side of Amorgos. Koufonisia also includes the tiny, uninhabited island of Keros, which is a protected archaeological site from which a good number of ancient Cycladic art has been excavated in the 20th century

PANO KOUFONISI OR KOUFONISI
Pano Koufonisi is the smallest and most densely populated island in Cyclades islands. It has an extent of 3,5sq.km and its population amounts to 366 residents. The main occupation of the locals is fishing, so Koufonisi is a true fish village where the visitors can eat fish and seafood in abundance. Comparably to its population, it has one of the biggest fishing fleets in Greece.Its heavenly beaches- the majority of them are sandy- are part of the magic picture of the island.

Koufonissia è l'insieme di due isole, il sopra e il sotto Koufonissi che appartengono al complesso delle Piccole Cicladi Orientali. Dal punto di vista geografico le troviamo a sud-est di Naxos e a ovest di Amorgos. E' collegata in modo inseparabile, con il loro nome, anche l'isola di Keros, una piccola isola disabitata di 15 km.q, che possiede importanti ritrovamenti della civiltà Cicladica.
