LOCATION

Kimolos Island - Cyclades

Kimolos with an area of just 37.5 km2 has an intensely diverse coastline of 45 km that forms numerous capes and a plethora of leeward caves that host from small, hard to reach and large, green, easy to reach sandy beaches.

It is surrounded by neighboring uninhavited islands such as Agios Efstathios, Agios Georgios, Polieghos (the largest uninhabited island in the Mediterranean), which you can visit by boat. The north side of the island where there is no road network, can also be visited by boat. A segment of Kimolos along with Polieghos are included as areas of particular natural beauty and intense indigenous biodiversity in the European Union Nature and Biodiversity Protected Areas Network (NATURA 200).

It is worth visiting the island's Archaeological and Folkloric Museums, while one can also enjoy wondering upon the village's traditional white-washed cobbly alleys and admire the simple traditional Cycladic architecture of a truly genuine and untouched by time. Don't neglect to visit the archaeological site at Kastro, "Skiadi" a geological monument of unique value at the NW part of Kimolos, and the beautiful churches and chapels. Don't fail to make the island's tour and particular that of Polieghos ley sea taxi. The experience will be really lavishly rewarding.

For those of you that are enthusiasts of good greek cuisine there are many selections available in both the village and in Psathi or the various beaches where you can satisfy any of your appetite requirements. Finally, there are traditional coffee shops (Kafenia), and modern bars and cafes (in both the village alleys surrounding the Venetian Castle and the idyllic Psathi) that await to offer you moments of relaxation and pleasure.

Getting there

Kimolos, that belongs to the Southwest Cyclades cluster, is located NE of the island of Milos from which it is only half a nautical mile away and SW of Sifnos. Kimolos is 87 nautical miles away from the port of Piraeus and is connected by conventional as well as highspeed ships. The journey lasts 4.5-7.5 hours depending on the ship (conventional or highspeed).

However if traveling by boat sounds tiring, you can choose to travel by air to the airport of neighboring Milos (flight duration 30') and then travel to Kimolos through Apollonia port in Milos by ferry that carries out frequent daily trips. In this case the sea journey lasts 30' or less if you choose the speedboat sea taxi alternative that performs upon request the route Milos-Kimolos.

If you decide to travel to Kimolos through Milos, you can take advantage of the fact that Milos is a huge port and is connected daily to both the port of Piraeus, as well as, other ports by plenty of conventional and highspeed boats. Finally remember that conventional ships that perform the internal Cyclades itinerary, approach Kimolos 2-3 times weekly.
