Ethra Cycladic Farm, has been operating in Syros since spring 2014 as an organic certified cultivating unit. The particular microclimate of the Cyclades, with drought, hot sun, brackish waters, sandy soils and strong winds, led to the choice of sea fennel, or criste marine, or rock samphire (Lat. name: Crithmum maritimum). Originally launched on a 6 acre site and since 2016 it has expanded to a total of 11 acres. Rock samphire as a native, aromatic, medicinal plant is a valuable ingredient of the Mediterranean diet. Its leaves are a rich source of vitamins C, E and K, which help stimulate the immune system and provide antioxidant activity. It contains a similar composition to olive oil, yet iodine, and sodium, while its high content in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids helps regulate metabolism while also having anti-aging action. Our partnership with award-winning chef Vasilis Kafaloukos began and evolves under a common vision: to create unique handmade – nutritional value products, designed to meet the demands of high gastronomy and modern aesthetics. After two years of research and laboratory testing we have created products based on the criterion that combine pure - finest ingredients with high quality and the art of sophisticated organic gastronomy. The experiential relationship, the harmony with the natural environment and the need to protect it, all express our values. Creating products which highlighting the "fruits" of the Cycladic land is our passion.
