The natural bay that constitutes the port of Aegiali is situated in the north part of the island of Amorgos (in the antiquity also known as "Pangali", "Psychia" or "Κarkisia") in the south-east of Cyclades.
The island's north-east side, Aegiali, was a colony of the Asia Minor city of Militos and nowadays includes 4 villages, Ormos, Potamos, Langada and Tholaria. Despite its mountainous landscape, Aegiali comprises a large plain of olive groves that leads to the longest sandy beach of the island.
The great prominence of Amorgos is due to the renowned Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa in the eastern part of the island. Built in a cliff and in great height above the sea, the Monastery offers an exceptional view. Visitors from all over the world enjoy the hospitality of the monks and the unique interior architecture of the cloister.
The permanent inhabitants of Amorgos are no more than two thousand during the winter months. The island's main financial income derives from fishing, tourism and agriculture (production of olive oil and wine).
Aegiali Bay is a touristically developing, traditional community, which comprises many restaurants and bars.
Τhe guesthouse Elichryson is located on the peripheral road of the village, at only a few metres' distance from Aegiali's community clinic, and enjoys the view from an elevated position in the village.
