THE COMPANY
Anemologio was built by local craftsmen, respecting the local architecture and using materials of the Cyclades (stone from Tinos, marble from Paros). It was renovated in 2014 and the owner’s purpose is always the excellent hospitality of Syros, in a friendly and cozy environment.
We want our guests to calm down, relax and enjoy their holidays with family or friends, only 50 metres away from the sandy beach of Foinikas.
Foinikas is a big village with trees.
Fishermen and farmers were once the permanent residents.
Finikas used to be a fishing village and is a nice town today. Safe and sheltered anchorage cove and shelter for fishing boats, weary from the August, breeze sailing. Refuge for the ancient Phoenicians who chose the cove to settle and slowly became their colony.
The Phoenicians were the thalassocrats of the prehistoric era. Homeric description of the island is a source of historical and geographic information evaluated by many historians and writers. Homer writes that “Syrie” (Syros) had two cities. One of them must have been where the current Ermoypoli is and the other in the coastal area “Poseideia” (Delagratsia) and Finikas. Archaeological observations and studies from the 19th century demontrate the existence of an ancient state in Finikas.
Foinikas is located on the southwestern side of Syros island. The Gulf of Foinikas is the second natural harbor of the island after that of Hermoupolis, fully protected from the northerly winds, recommending safe haven for yachts, as it offers a well equipped marina.
The coastline where Foinikas stretches, as well as the interior of the village, may offer a range of options to visitors, offering beautiful hotels, comfortable rooms and apartments to let, nice restaurants, taverns and snack bars, grills, bars, cafeterias, cafes, which provide excellent service throughout the year. The visitor’s needs are covered by market that consists of all sorts of shops like Super Market, Mini Market, bakery, butcher’s shop, hairdresser’s shop, bookstore, newspaper kiosk, gift shop, chandlery, car and bicycle rental. At the village you can also find rural clinic and pharmacy.
The visitor, young and elder, has the ability to deal with diving, water sports and fishing, hiking, and biking.
The natural beauty, the crystal clear sea, the residents warm and interpersonal hospitality, combined with the coverage of modern tourist facilities, contribute to a memorable holiday.
