YRIA CERAMICS was founded in 1977 by two young potters. Stelios Ghikas, a Paros native, had just finished his studies and graduated from the Faenza Institute of Industrial Design in Italy and Monique Mailloux , born and raised in New England, came from Franconia College in the U.S.A. They began what would become their life's work - designing and producing handcrafted pottery intended for everyday use; functional and affordable art for discerning individuals. So began the tradition of STUDIO YRIA.

Over the years STUDIO YRIA has conceived and produced an enormous number of differing shapes and designs, many of which are based on historical sources including pre-classical, Byzantine and folk models. The ceramic production is not limited to dinnerware but also extends to sconces, vases, large decorative platters, and bowls of all sizes and shapes, as well as handmade tiles used in island architecture. These are among many other items available from the workshop and YRIA INTERIORS in Lefkes Village, which also features products of Greek farmers and artisans in addition to home furnishings from France.

While the ceramic business is its main focus, STUDIO YRIA also provides working space and extended residencies for other artists and craftspersons both Greek and foreign.
