GLASSWORKS WORKSHOP: PYROESSA “Pyroessa” was one of the titles of Goddess Aphrodite: Bathed in the fire just like the craft of glassmaking which was born in the blaze (pyr in Greek) of the kiln. The invention of glassmaking came accidentally through the attempts to enamel ceramics, so as to make pottery waterproof, in order for it to become usable. The first glassmakers were restless potters who were intent on finding additional uses and decorative features and during those attempts glass was created. Consequently, the first glass perfume cruets were of the same shape as ceramics ones. Following the development set by the ancient potters and for five generations in this trend we have decided to continue the tradition in glassmaking and its by-products. One of the techniques used in ancient times for the construction of artifacts was through bending. The decorated glass surface is put in a mould and in turn it is placed in the kiln. The high temperature causes it to bend shaping it in the desired form. That is precisely the ancient Greek technique we also use for the production of our handy and ornamental glassworks. We aim to combine old ceramic forms with modern designs and patterns, which can blend with contemporary decorative concepts. For decoration, we use multi-coloured crystal as well as metals in powder form, such as gold, silver and copper.
