Schinoussa is located south of Naxos and north-east of Heraklia. It covers an area of 9.5 square kilometers, and has a population of 280 residents in two settlements, Panagia and Messaria. The name of the plant Schinias is where the island got its name.
Schinoussa's climate is cool and sweet with no abrupt changes. Often, you feel that the season is summer all year round. The main harbor is Mersini, which is renowned as one of the best small boats shelters across the Aegean. Panagia, the capital of the island is found 1600 meters from the port and is built on a hill.
